How to Properly Use a Bidet

How to Properly Use a Bidet thumbnail
It's likely you've never used a bidet, if you've only lived in the U.S.

A bidet is a low-mounted washing station for your genitals and anus area. Usually located in the bathroom next to the toilet, the bidet streams water out of the bowl when the faucets are turned on. The bidet's water jets allow you to clean yourself more thoroughly, after using the commode.

While the bidet is a common bathroom fixture in places like Europe, for instance, it isn't so prevalent in the United States. If you've never used this device, its operational procedures might not be intuitive. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Straddle the bidet, facing its faucet, or, if preferred, sit on the bidet like you would when using the toilet. Most people chose to straddle the bidet facing the handles because it allows easy access to control the faucet's water pressure and temperature.

    • 2

Turn on the water slowly to test the water stream's temperature. Adjust the temperature to your liking. Some bidets also allow you to adjust the water jet's angle.

    • 3

Increase the water pressure once you're happy with the adjustments. The high water pressure cleans the rectal and groin areas.

    • 4

Rinse the bidet by lowering the water pressure. Turn off the water when the bidet is clean.

    • 5

Dry off with a towel, or use the bidet's built-in drying feature, if available.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wipe yourself thoroughly before using the bidet.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water after using the bidet.
