How to Install Hoses on a Carburetor

Most carburetors have four hoses that must be properly installed for the carburetor to function properly. One hose allows extra gas to drain from the carburetor, one hose allows the air into the carburetor to mix with the gas, one allows the gas to flow into the carburetor and the last hose allows the fumes to exit the carburetor. Each hose will need its own hose clamp to keep the hoses connected to the carburetor with a good seal.

Instructions

1. Connect a hose clamp to each hose end that will be connected to the respective carburetor intake (whether it be a nipple for the fuel-inlet line, or the top of the carburetor itself for the air-intake hose). Place the clamp at the end of the hose so that when the hose is place, the clamp tightens around the hose at its point of contact.

2. Apply a small amount of water displacement spray lubricant to each point of hose contact on the carburetor. Allow the lubrication to set for about two minutes.

3. Squeeze the clamp ends to loosen it and slide the hose onto the carburetor. Release the clamp and slightly pull on the hose to ensure that the clamp is tight. Repeat for all other hoses.

Tips & Warnings

• For hose clamps that use a screw fastener, loosen or tighten the clamp by turning the screw.
