Daily life takes a toll on our skin and bodies. Air irritants and the sun dries out our skin and makes it necessary to replenish the moisture. Shea body butter does just that. It makes skin appear healthier and smooth. Body butter is sold in retail stores across the country but it gets expensive having to replace it every month. Things You'll Need

  • 1 pound shea butter
  • 1 pound mango butter
  • 1/3 cup sweet almond oil
  • 1/3 cup avocado oil
  • 1/3 cup apricot kernel oil
  • 3 tablespoons jojoba oil
  • 1 to 3 teaspoons vitamin E
  • 1 teaspoon lanolin
  • 5 to 10 drops grapefruit seed extract
  • 5 teaspoons essential oils
  • Knife
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Food processor
  • Microwave
  • 12 baby food jars

Instructions

      Cut the shea and mango butters into 1 inch cubes. Place them in a large, microwavable bowl.

      Heat the butters for two minutes in the microwave. Stir. Continue to heat the butters in 30 second increments, stirring between cycles, until the butters are soft but not melted.

      Dump the butters into a food processor. Add the sweet almond, avocado, apricot kernel and jojoba oils. Puree approximately 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture is smooth.

      Add the grapefruit seed extract, vitamin E, lanolin and essential oils to the food processor and mix until smooth.

      Spoon the body butter into the jars while it is still soft. You will have to work quickly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the body butter starts to set while you are jarring it, you can heat it back up for a few seconds in the microwave. Be careful not to burn it.
