You can download texts from your Verizon phone to your computer using BitPim.

Upon accumulating text messages on your phone, older ones are automatically deleted. You may want to save and archive your old texts for future reference. There are no officially released programs by Verizon Wireless that allow you to download text messages from your phone to computer, but there is a free program called BitPim which does allow you to.

Instructions

Download and install BitPim to your system. A link is in Resources. Note that there is no official Verizon support for this application and by using it you run the risk of damaging your phone.

    • 2

Plug your Verizon phone into your computer using the USB cable. Launch BitPim and click on the icon called "Find Phone." When it discovers your phone it loads up a directory of your phone's file system so you can explore the contents.

Click on the "SMS" tab in BitPim. This reveals a drop-down of the text messages on your phone. Right-click on the folder you want to export, such as Inbox, Sent and Saved, and select "Export SMS." Click "Browse" to select a folder on your computer to save the file to and select a format to save the texts (mbox or CVS).

Click "OK" and the texts on your phone are saved onto your computer. Exit BitPim before unplugging your phone.
