How to Change a 2004 Z06 Corvette Fuel Filter

The main function of the fuel filter on the 2004 Z06 Corvette is to remove the sediments from the fuel before the fuel reaches the fuel injectors. The fuel is pumped out of the gas tank by the fuel pump, then circulates through the fuel lines and into the fuel filter. The sediments from the fuel are then trapped inside of the fibers on the fuel filter. The clean fuel then flows to the fuel injectors and the engine.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the 2004 Z06 Corvette in a well-ventilated work area. Make sure that the ground is level.

    • 2

Remove the fuel cap from the fuel tank to release the fuel pressure from the fuel filter.

    • 3

Position the jack under the rear sub-frame of the Corvette. Jack the Corvette up in the air and put the jack stands under the frame rail in front of both rear tires. Slowly lower the Corvette onto the jack stands.

    • 4

Climb under the driver-side rear of the Corvette near the rear passenger-side tire. Locate the fuel filter. It is connected to the frame rail directly in front of the driver-side rear tire. The fuel filter has two fuel lines in the rear and one fuel line in the front.

    • 5

Slide the fluid catch pan under the fuel filter. Remove the two rear fuel lines by compressing the end of the fuel lines near the fuel-filter ports with your hand. Then, gently pull the fuel lines off as you are compressing the fuel lines with your hand.

    • 6

Slide the end of the fuel-line quick-disconnect tool into end of the front fuel line. Press the tool into the end of the front fuel line until the fuel line unlocks from the fuel filter. Pull the front fuel line off the fuel filter. Let both fuel lines hang down towards the catch pan.

    • 7

Remove the bracket bolt that is holding the fuel filter in place with the ratchet and socket. Then, slide the fuel filter out of the bracket.

    • 8

Slide the new fuel filter into the bracket with the flow arrow pointing towards the front of the Corvette. Tighten the bracket bolt back down tight with the ratchet and socket. Slide the catch pan out from under the Corvette.

    • 9

Screw the fuel cap back onto the fuel tank. Prime the fuel filter with fuel by turning the key on and off three times. Crank the engine and inspect the fuel filter for leaks. Turn the engine off.

    • 10

Jack the rear of the Corvette up and remove the jack stands. Lower the Corvette to the ground.
