How to Remove Gas Smell From Clothes
Gasoline has a strong odor that can linger on your clothing. Whether you splashed gas onto your clothes at the gas pump or while working on your car, getting gasoline on your clothing is frustrating. Even after the actual gasoline stain is gone, the petrol odor often is left behind. There are a variety of products that are used for removing gasoline odor from clothing. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Bucket, sink or washing machine
- White vinegar
- Water
- Grease-cutting dish soap
- Laundry detergent

Fill a bucket, sink or washing machine with enough warm water to completely cover the smelly clothing. Let the clothes soak in the warm water for at least two hours.

Wring out the clothing well when you remove it from the water. Lay the clothing outside in the sun to dry.

Fill a bucket, sink or washing machine with equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Place the clothing into the vinegar and water solution and let it soak overnight.

Take the clothes out of the solution the next day and wring them out well. Lay them outside in the sun to dry again.

Soak the clothing in a solution of warm water and a few squirts of grease-cutting dish soap. Let the clothing soak for about 20 minutes. Remove the clothing from the soapy water and lay it again in the sun to dry.

Wash your clothing as usual in the washer with the regular amount of laundry detergent. Do not place the clothing in the dryer until you are sure that all of the gasoline odor is gone.

Repeat this entire process if any odor remains on the clothing. You may need to repeat this process a couple of times to fully remove the gasoline smell from clothing.

Tips & Warnings
Soak the clothing in a solution of 1 gallon of warm water and 1 cup of baking soda for another method of removing gasoline odor. Let the clothing soak overnight, dry in the sun and then launder as usual.
