Background check information comes in the form of public information. The local state court records will have the information you need for your check. You can search this court either online or in person. Unfortunately, out of state applicants obviously cannot be searched in this manner. You could attempt to call the state from which an applicant is from, but they could be lying to you about their origin.

Contact your local police department. They will run a background check for you, but at a cost. This service generally costs around $35. The police will provide you a form which you must fill out to gain legal permission to conduct the check. The employee must sign this form as well.

Save money and time by using this alternative method: have them provide their own. If you put the process in the employee's hands, you have saved yourself some time and money. Make sure they go to the police department to conduct their own check. This way, you can safely rely on the information that they bring back.
