How to Email Music on a CD

Using a free audio program, such as Windows Media Player or iTunes, you can easily rip music from a CD in order to email it to someone. Both of these audio programs are free and easy to use. Windows Media Player comes pre-installed on every PC and iTunes come pre-installed on every Mac.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Windows Media Player
  • iTunes
  • Music CD
  • Email account

Using Windows Media Player

  • Open Windows Media Player.

  • Insert the CD from which you would like to email music.

  • Click "Rip" and then select the arrow below the "Rip" button.

  • Choose "Format" from the menu that expands below the "Rip" button and select "MP3" as your importing format. This will make sure that the music is ripped into a compressed audio file that can easily be uploaded into an email.

  • Check-mark the music from the CD that you would like to import.

  • Click "Start Rip" and Windows Media Player will rip the selected music from the CD and save it in the "Music" folder of your computer.

  • Open up your web browser and log in to your email account. Create a new email, add the email recipient, then click the "Attach Files" button. Browse to the "Music" folder on your computer and select the music file that you imported from the CD. Click "OK" and the music file will be uploaded to your email. Repeat this step to upload multiple music files to your email.

  • Click "Send" and you will have successfully emailed music from a CD.

Using iTunes

  • Open iTunes.

  • Open iTunes preferences and select "Import Settings." From "Import Settings" select the "MP3 Encoder" and click "OK." This will make sure that the music is ripped into a compressed audio file that can easily be uploaded into an email.

  • Click "OK" again to exit the preferences menu.

  • Insert the CD from which you would like to email music.

  • Click "No" when iTunes asks to import the Audio CD. This will allow you to choose which songs you would like to import, rather than importing the entire CD.

  • Check-mark the music from the CD that you would like to import.

  • Click "Import Disc" and iTunes will rip the selected music from the CD and save it in the "iTunes Music" folder on your computer.

  • Open up your web browser and log in to your email account. Create a new email, add the email recipient, then click the "Attach Files" button. Browse to the "iTunes Music" folder on your computer and select the music file that you imported from the CD. Click "OK" and the music file will be uploaded to your email. Repeat this step to upload multiple music files to your email.

  • Click "Send" and you will have successfully emailed music from a CD.
