How to Repair Filler in a Laminate Floor

Fixing a dent or a gouge in a laminate floor is a little different than fixing damage to real wood. With wood, you can fill the area with wood putty, sand it and cover it in gloss. But laminate flooring usually is a particleboard covered with wood veneer, and shouldn't be sanded or glossed. Instead, buy wax-based filler of the same shade as the floor.

Things You'll Need

• Fine sandpaper
• Rubbing alcohol
• Cloth
• Wax filler (same shade as floor)
• Plastic putty knife

Instructions

1. Fold a piece of fine sandpaper into a square. Use the sharp edge of the corner to sand out the inside of the dent or gouge, de-glossing it so the filler will adhere.

2. Wet the corner of a cloth in rubbing alcohol. Rub the damaged area of the floor to remove the dust and any grime.

3. Scoop up a little wax filler with the end of your putty knife. Apply the filler into the
   dent or gouge, pressing it tightly down inside it and letting it mound a little on top.

4. Push the flat edge of the putty knife forward over the mounded filler, cutting off the top of the mound and leaving it flat and even with the surface.

5. Use the dry part of your cloth to vigorously buff the surface, to take up any residual filler. Let the filler set for a day before walking on it.
