How to Block a Website in All Web Browsers
You may want to block a website in your Web browser for many reasons. The site may be malicious or you may be trying to prevent minors from accessing certain content or social networking websites. You can block websites in the most popular browsers--Firefox, Internet Explorer, Apple Safari and Google Chrome. Firefox is the only browser that requires add-ons to enable it to block websites. You can obtain these add-ons free of charge.

Firefox

Open the Firefox Web browser. Click on the "Tools" menu at the top of the browser. Select "Add-ons" from the drop-down menu.

Chose the "Get Add-ons" option. In the corresponding search field, enter the name of an add-on that will enable Firefox to block websites, such as "BlockSite," "Fox Filter" or "ProCon Latte." Click the "Search" icon. Select the add-on of your choice from the list of results and hit the "Add to Firefox" option. Firefox will install the add-on and restart itself.

Go back to the "Tools" menu once Firefox has restarted. Select "Add-ons" and click on the add-on that you installed (e.g., BlockSite).

Click on the option within the add-on to block a website. Type the URL of the website you want to block like this: http://*facebook.* (Be sure to include the asterisks **).

Save your settings and the website will be blocked.
Internet Explorer

Open your Internet Explorer Web browser. Select the "Tools" menu from the top of the browser.

Click on "Internet Options" and select "Content."

Press "Enable" under the "Content Advisor" option.

Write the website name in the "Allow this Web site" field like this: *facebook.com"

Click on the "Never" button to block the website. Hit "Apply" to save your settings.
Apple Safari

Launch Safari and click on the small "gear" icon in the top right corner of the browser.

Select "Preferences" from the drop-down menu.

Chose the "Advanced" tab and click on the "Change Settings" button.

Select the "Privacy" tab. Click on the "Sites" button.

Enter the URL of the website you want to block in the "Address of website" field. Hit "Block" and "OK" to save your settings.
Google Chrome

Launch Google Chrome. Click the "wrench" icon at the top right of the browser.

Select "Options" from the drop-down menu to open a dialog box.

Click on the "Under the Hood" tab and press the "Change Proxy Settings" button under the "Network" options.

Select the "Privacy" tab and click on the "Sites" button. This will bring up the "Manage Sites" dialog box.

Enter the URL of the site you want to block in the "Address of website" field. Hit "Block" and then "OK" to save settings.
