Flip Book Instructions

A flip book is a book, or series of pages, filled with images that gradually change from one page to the next. When the pages are turned rapidly, the images appear as an animation. Flip books are used often in children's literature to illustrate an action. Another common use of flip books is integrating them into the pages of books and magazines, usually in the corners. Flip books are simple to make and fun to use.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what image you want to animate.

    • 2

Draw the the image in its starting position at the top, left corner of the page.

    • 3

Draw the image in the ending position at the bottom, right corner of the page.

    • 4

Draw the intermediate images. Remember that five images usually take about one second to flip through. The more images you draw, the longer and more complex the animation will be.

    • 5

Copy the images to the note cards. Put one image on each note card in approximately the same spot. Position the picture on the right edge of the card.

    • 6

Bind the cards together by sliding the rubber band onto the left half of the stack of note cards. Flip through the stack from front to back to show the animation.
