How to Apply for Multiple Credit Cards

Applying for multiple credit cards

Applying for credit cards is something you can do online with the majority of credit card issuers. Additionally, you may receive instant approval depending on the card issuer. Applying for multiple cards within a short amount of time is not recommended as it can raise red flags with the card issuer that you are desperate for credit. Staggering credit card applications, with a minimum of six months between application rounds, is your best bet for credit approval.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a list of the credit cards you'd like to apply for and list them in the order of importance. Find the website addresses for each credit card. According to Jane Content with Come Back Credit, the ideal number of credit cards to have is two to three.

    • 2

Visit the website http://whogavemecredit.com and enter the credit card names you wish to apply for. View the results and determine if your credit score will qualify you for approval. Do not apply for cards that require higher credit scores than you currently have. Alter your list as necessary.

    • 3

Visit the website for the credit card listed in the number one position on your list. Fill out the credit application completely and submit the application. Take note if you receive an instant approval or if you will receive a response via mail.

    • 4

Go immediately to the website listed as number two on your list. Fill out the application for the credit card and again note if you are given instant approval or will be notified via mail.

    • 5

Wait for the cards to arrive in the mail or the denial letters. Regardless of approval or denial, do not apply for additional credit cards until six months have passed. Repeated applications will lower your credit score and can cause automatic denial of credit.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have maintained the new credit account successfully for six months, your credit score will rise.

  • Each credit inquiry will lower your credit score three to five points. You get a credit inquiry with each credit application.
