How to Make 3D Images for 3D Glasses

With a digital camera and Adobe Photoshop, you can easily make your own anaglyphic 3-D images that will work with the classic green and red 3-D glasses. This technique will work with any type of photo, as long as the object in the photo was perfectly still at the time it was taken. So you can take pictures of people, pets, buildings, nature, or any other still subject and turn them all into 3-D images that can be printed or viewed on a computer screen.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe Photoshop (or similar editing software)

Instructions

    • 1

Take a photograph of a still object with your digital camera. Then move the camera over 3 inches to the right and take another photo of the object.

    • 2

Upload the two pictures to your computer and name the first picture "Left" and the second picture "Right."

    • 3

Launch Adobe Photoshop. (As it is the imaging software most familiar to the general public, it will be used to illustrate the process, but other programs work in a similar fashion.) Click on the "File" menu and then "Open." Open the "Left" and "Right" pictures.

    • 4

Go to the "Right" image and press "ctrl+A" to select the entire image and then press "ctrl+C" to copy it. Go to the left image and press "ctrl+V" to paste the copy over it. The "Right" image will now be in a layer over the "Left" image.

    • 5

Go to the "Layers" pallet and right-click on the "Right" image layer and select "Blending options." Uncheck the "R" check box, which is the red channel, under the "Advanced Blending" options. Click "OK" to close the window.

    • 6

Use the "Move" tool to align the focal point of the "Right" image perfectly over the "Left" image.

    • 7

Use the "Crop" tool to crop out the left over space around the edges of the picture. Go to the "File" menu and click on "Save As" to save your 3-D picture as a JPEG, PSD, PNG, or whatever file type you would like.
