How to Use a Sixaxis Controller on a PC

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) is unlike many other seventh-generation home-gaming consoles in that it primarily makes use of a controller that is connected to the system by a USB cable. This controller, also known as the "Sixaxis" controller, can therefore be easily connected to any PC with an available USB port. Because of this, the Sixaxis controller can be used on a PC as long as the proper device drivers are installed on the computer.

  • Connect the Mini-B end of the Mini-B-to-USB cable to the Mini-B port on your Sixaxis controller. This cable will come with every Sixaxis controller.

  • Connect the USB end of the cable to an available USB port on your PC.

  • Download the device driver from the link in the Resources section. Make sure you download the right driver for your system architecture (either 32-bit or 64-bit). This will download a zipped file to your "Downloads" folder.

  • Extract the executable (.exe) file from your zipped folder and select it to run the program. This program will install the proper divers to your system, enabling you to use the Sixaxis controller on your PC.
