How to Sync Exchange Contacts With Gmail


The importing and exporting feature found in Microsoft Outlook allows you to export contacts from one program, and import them into Google Mail's online contact list that can be accessed from any computer by logging into your Gmail account. Microsoft Outlook will bundle and save your contacts as a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file, which is compatible with Gmail as well as other mail programs. Once the CSV file is imported into Gmail, you can delete the file from your computer.

  • Click "Start" on the PC's desktop, then click "All Programs" and select "Outlook" to run the program.

  • Select "File" at the top of the Outlook window, and click "Import and Export" from the drop-down menu. Select "Export a File" and click the "Next" button.

  • Select "Comma Separated Value" as the file format, then click the "Next" button. Click the contact folder you want to export and choose the "Next" button.

  • Select "Desktop" as the file destination for the saved CSV file, then click the "Next" button. Create a name for the file, click "OK" and choose "Finish."

  • Open your Internet browser and go to the Gmail site. Enter your Gmail user name and password, and click the "Sign In" button.

  • Select the "Contacts" link in the Gmail sidebar, and click the "Import" link in the upper-right corner of the browser's window.

  • Select the "Browse" button, and click the CSV file located on your desktop in the "Choose FIle to Upload" window.

  • Click the "Open" button, then select the "Import Contacts" to import your Exchange contacts into Gmail.
