How to Change Your Homepage on the Computer

Save

The Internet homepage for your computer is saved in the web browser applications. If the computer has more than one web browser, for example, if both Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers are installed, the homepage must be reset within each application. In Microsoft Windows operating systems, the homepage may be reset by opening Internet Explorer and accessing the "Tools" utility, or by using the "Internet Options" feature in the Control Panel. For Firefox, the "Options" feature in the "Tools" utility holds the homepage information.

Change the Homepage in Internet Explorer

  • Click the Windows "Start" button and select the "Control Panel" option.

  • Select the "Internet Options" icon. The Internet Options interface launches.

  • Click the "General" tab, if it is not already active.

  • Type the URL to the new homepage in the input box labeled "Home Page". Enter multiple URLs in the input box to create multiple homepage tabs.

  • Click "OK" to save the settings and close the dialog box.

  • Test the homepage setting by opening Internet Explorer. If the homepage displayed is the correct website, the settings have been successfully configured.

Changing the Homepage in Firefox

  • Open the Firefox internet browser and click "Tools" from the top navigation bar.

  • Click the "Options" link from the content menu. The Options interface will launch.

  • Click the "Main" button on the top bar of the interface.

  • Enter the URL to the new homepage in the "Home Page" input box.

  • Click the "OK" button to save and close the dialog box.

  • Test the homepage settings in Firefox by closing all instances of the browser, and reopening Firefox. If the homepage displayed is correct, the settings have been successfully configured.

Tips & Warnings

  • In Internet Explorer, the Internet Options dialog box may also be accessed in the application by clicking "Tools" from the top navigation bar, and selecting "Internet Options".
