How to Burn a DVD Using DVD Shrink 3.2

Save

DVD Shrink is one of the more popular programs used to backup and copy DVD movies to a computer's hard drive. Because most DVDs are burned onto dual-layer disks—DVD disks that can hold substantially more than the most common types of blank DVDs—the movies usually need to be shrunk down from their original size before they can fit on a recordable DVD. However, DVD Shrink by itself is only capable of placing a DVD movie onto a computer's hard drive, and not onto a blank DVD. Fortunately, DVD Shrink is set up to take advantage of the presence of Nero Burning ROM if it is installed alongside DVD Shrink. If Nero is installed, DVD Shrink can make use of the DVD burning capabilities of Nero and burn a DVD movie in its native environment.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with DVD burner
  • Nero Burning ROM
  • Blank DVD
  • Launch DVD Shrink and insert the DVD movie you wish to copy into your computer's DVD burner.

  • Click the "Edit" menu and select "Preferences" from the drop-down list. Once the "Preferences" dialog box appears, click the "File I/O" tab and ensure that the "Enable burning with Nero" box is checked. Click "OK" to return to the DVD Shrink window.

  • Click the large "Open" button in the top-left corner of the DVD Shrink window, then select the drive containing your DVD movie from the drop-down menu in the new dialog box that pops up. Click "OK," and DVD Shrink will load your movie into its environment.

  • Select which options you wish your movie to be copied with. DVD Shrink allows you to choose what audio tracks you wish to keep, what types of special features or extras you wish to copy along with the actual movie and also allows what subtitles you wish to carry over.

  • Click the "Backup" button once you have selected the options you wish to include with your copied movie. DVD Shrink will ask you to specify a temporary location on your hard drive where the files from the DVD movie will be copied, as well as a "backup target." Choose a location on your hard drive for the temporary files, then click the drop-down menu under the "Backup Target" section and select your DVD Burner drive from the list of options. Click "OK" to start the burning process.

  • Insert your blank disk into the DVD burner when prompted by DVD Shrink then close the drive. DVD Shrink will automatically burn the DVD movie back onto the blank DVD once it has finished placing the temporary files on the hard drive.

Tips & Warnings

  • This process will only work if Nero Burning ROM is installed on your computer.
