1
Pour light machine oil into a pot until it's about a quarter full. Place the sharpening stone into the pot to soak overnight. Make sure that the stone is completely submerged in the oil. Soaking a stone in oil will help to lubricate the stone, making it easier to sharpen your scissors.
-
2
Open the scissors and hold onto them in your nondominant hand at the pivot, with the blades facing up.
-
-
3
Position the scissors so that the first blade you will sharpen is pointing downward and the second blade is resting on your wrist. Hold the sharpening stone in your dominant hand.
-
4
Place the stone at the pivot of the blade. Slowly, with slight pressure, slide the stone down the length of the blade to the point. Repeat this 10 times.
-
5
Turn the scissors to sharpen the second blade. Repeat Step 4 with the second blade.
-
6
Wipe off the blades with a paper towel to remove excess oil. Open and close the blades quickly to knock off any burrs or stone dust.
