There's lots of great programming on computers these days, from live concerts to sports competitions to Internet radio programs and much, much more. In fact, you may have been visited once or twice by the impulse to retain some great piece of entertainment streaming across your computer's headphones, but were unable to do so successfully.

Happily, advances in free recording software for the computer allows anyone to record anything they're hearing in their headsets in real-time, and at high quality to boot.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install a free copy of a sound-recording program for your computer like Audacity or Free Sound Recorder. Leave all the default settings as they are.

    • 2

Open your favorite entertainment venue that you'd like to record, and start it playing. Make sure you can hear it clearly through your headphones or headset; that means the recording software can monitor it.

    • 3

Open a session of the recording software, and make sure it's set to record "Monitor," which means whatever the computer plays.

    • 4

Hit "Record" and sit back. The software will keep recording until you hit "Stop," and then it'll allow you to export your recordings to a variety of compatible formats.
