How to Get Directions to a Location

Save

There are a number of web-based services, such as MapQuest and GoogleMaps, that exist for the sole purpose of providing driving, walking and public transportation directions and area maps. If you have the addresses of the different locations between which you'll be traveling, you can quickly and easily get directions online.

  • Open an Internet browser and type in the web address of the mapping service you wish to use. Choose from one of the three mapping sites linked in the Reference section of this article if you don't have a favorite.

  • Press the tab, button or link that reads "Get Directions," typically located on the navigation site's home page.

  • Type in the addresses of your starting point and destination in the appropriate fields, including the city and state or zip code.

  • Add a third (or more) stop to your travel plans by clicking on the link that reads "Add Another Location," which is usually located beneath the starting point and destination address dialogue boxes.

  • Click on a particular path, if multiple routes are given, to see details of that travel plan.
