How to Repair a Rusting Bathtub
A rusting bathtub is not attractive. With rust stains in a bathtub, a person is washing herself in rusty water. While the rust itself is harmless, it is a good idea to get rid of any rust stains. If the rust becomes extensive, it could cause holes in the tub, which leads to a variety of problems. The bathtubs of today are constructed of a wide range of materials, most of which are susceptible to rust if the protective coating wears off or is scratched off. Use the scrubbing pad to scrub away the rust on the bathtub.

Pour white vinegar onto a sponge, and apply it to the rust on the tub. Saturate the rust. Close the drain if rust is on the bottom of the tub. Wait 15 to 30 minutes, then scrub at the rust with a scrubbing pad. Clean the area with a damp paper towel, and rinse out the tub.

Make a paste of salt and lime. Mix together 1 part lime juice and 2 parts table salt. Apply the paste to all the rust stains on the bathtub. Wait two to three hours for the paste to work. Then wash off the paste with a scrubbing pad, and rinse out the tub. This step is for deep-seated or stubborn rust.
