How to Make a Class Schedule
Making a class schedule helps students prepare for classes ahead of time. Teachers can print out class schedules for their younger students, while older students can prepare the schedules themselves. If the schedule will stay the same year-round, a student can laminate it and glue it to the front or back of her binder for frequent reference.
Instructions

-
1
Open Microsoft Excel or any other spreadsheet-generating application.
-
2
Give the schedule a name and type it into the top-left corner (cell A1). Use a bold font and change font size to 16 or larger.
-
-
3
Choose which days of the week to include in your schedule. List only week days if your school only holds classes five days a week. Include Saturday and Sunday if you want to list additional classes or extracurricular activities that take place on the weekends. Type the first day of the week in cell B2 ("Sunday" or "Monday"). (Leave cell A2 empty.) Click your mouse over cell B2 and bring your mouse down to the bottom right until a plus sign forms. Drag the mouse across Row Two. This will automatically fill in the days of the week in cells C2, D2 and so on.
-
4
Click on the title defined in Step 2 and drag your mouse so it highlights all the cells directly above the days of the week. Click on the "merge and center" button to center the title in the middle of the schedule.
-
5
Choose time intervals for your spreadsheet according to the length of your school periods. For a generic class schedule, choose time intervals of every fifteen minutes. Type the time of your first class in cell A3. List the two next time intervals in cells A4 and A5. Highlight all three cells with your mouse. With the cells highlighted, move the mouse to the bottom-right corner of cell A5 until a plus sign forms. Drag the mouse down column A for about thirty rows. This will fill times in automatically in the same interval you defined. Remove the extra rows if more times were created than hours in the school day.
-
6
Drag your mouse from cell B2 (first day of the week) all the way until the last day of the week. Keeping this area highlighted, pull the mouse down until the row of the latest time slot is highlighted. This will create a highlighted box around the entire class schedule. Click the right side of the mouse so that a menu pops up. Click on the "format cells" option. Select the "borders" tab. Click the "outline" and "inside" border options. This will create a box around each cell for easy reading.
-
7
Save the schedule as a generic template that can be filled later in by any teacher or student with specific classes.
-
8
Fill in the schedule for a particular class by clicking on the cells that correspond with a specific time slots and days of the week. If the class fills more than one time slot then type the name of the class in the top cell and leave the rest empty. Merge all the cells for the same class by dragging the mouse over them and clicking on the "Merge and Center" button. Right-click on the cell and select "Format" on the menu. On the "Alignment" tab change vertical alignment to "Top."
Signify free periods by highlighting with a gray background. Save the completed schedule with a different name from the schedule template.
-
9
Print out the template and laminate. Use it as a personal class schedule or distribute it to students or teachers.
