How to Make a Long Distance Call to the Philippines

Save

If you have a friend, family member or business associate in Manila, San Pablo or another city in the Philippines, you have a need to dial a long distance call to that country. A call to the Philippines is an international call, and dialing the long distance number to your associate in the Philippines is more complicated than dialing someone within the United States. Making a long distance call to the Philippines requires an international calling plan on your phone line and knowing the correct numbers to dial.

  • Call your telephone service provider by dialing the number at the top of your phone bill and pressing 0 to speak to a customer service representative. Provide security information to the customer service representative as requested such as your date of birth or Social Security number to verify that you are account holder. Ask the representative whether you have an international calling plan on your phone line. Subscribe to an international plan if you do not already have one by telling the representative that you need to make a long distance call to the Philippines and agreeing to one of the international calling plans as outlined by the representative.

  • Dial the international dialing code 011. This is the code that alerts your telephone service provider that you are about to make an international call.

  • Enter 63, which is the country code for the Philippines.

  • Press the city code of the city in the Philippines where your friend, family member or business colleague lives. For example, if the person you're calling is in Manila, you would press 2, the city code for Manila. Click on the link in the Resources Section for the Philippines city codes to determine the city code for the city you are dialing.

  • Dial the phone number of the person you are calling in the Philippines.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't want to add an international calling plan to your phone plan, another option is to use a calling card or a program such as Skype, which calls through your computer. Be sure you understand the rates and costs of each of these options before using them.
