How to Install an HTC Streaming Media Player

Save

Streaming videos from online sites, such as YouTube, require a streaming media player. Windows phones prior to Windows Mobile 6.0 are unable to play real-time streaming protocol (RTSP) or 3GP file types. As a result, installing an HTC Streaming Media player allows you to view streaming media online. To install an HTC Streaming Media player, you must first download the software to your computer and copy it to your phone. Once on your phone, installation and viewing are simple processes.

  • Download the HTC Streaming Media player. XDA-Developers.com extracted the HTC Streaming Media player for download. Register with XDA-Developers forum to gain access to the download file. Once your registration is complete, the file will begin to download. In addition, you can download the file from RapidShare. (See Resources.)

  • Extract the file. The download folder contains a .zip file. Use your computer's extraction software or right-click the file and select "Extract All." Complete the extraction process by following the prompts. Save the file to an easily remembered location.

  • Copy the file to your phone. Connect your phone to your computer and copy the HTC Streaming Media.cab file to your phone. Place the file in a place you will easily remember.

  • Install the software. Disconnect your phone from the computer. Open "File Explorer" on your phone and navigate to the HTC Streaming Media file. Click the file to complete the installation process. Once complete, restart your phone to ensure a smooth installation.

  • View streaming media. Visit a site, such as YouTube, and select a video. The program should open and begin streaming the audio and video on your phone.
