How to Set Up a RTSP Server

By Keith Manning

Real Time Streaming Protocol, or RTSP, is a network control protocol used for streaming media across computer platforms and servers. RTSP essentially manages the data stream between two end points, and enables you to watch live video from any device connected to the RTSP server. If you have media you want to stream, you can set up your RTSP server through your Windows Media Player application.

Step 1

Click "Start," "All Programs" and double-click "Windows Media Player."

Step 2

Click "Menu," "Tools."

Step 3

Click "Options," "Network." Place a check in the box next to "Use Ports."

Step 4

Type the port range for your RTSP server. It is usually between 7000-7007. Click "OK" to set up your RTSP server.
