How to Build a Goat Hay Feeder From Scratch
Wood hay feeders help keep hay off the ground and free from contamination. They also help save money, since your goats will eat more of the hay, as opposed to trampling it. You can make hay feeders out of wood scraps from around the farm. The length of the hayrack will depend on the number of goats that will eat out of the feeder.

- 2-by-4-inch boards
- Drill with screwdriver bit
- Wood screws

Using your tape measure as a guide, cut two 2-by-4-inch boards to 24 inches long with your saw. Write "A" on one end of each board. These pieces will become the side braces.

Cut four 2-by-4s 18 inches long. Write "B" at one end of each board. These pieces will become the side top braces.

Cut four 2-by 4s 30 inches long. Write "C" at one end of each board. These pieces will become the diagonal front braces.

Cut one 2-by-4 36 inches long. Write "D" on one end of the board. This piece will become the top front brace.

Cut one piece of plywood 24 inches tall by 36 inches long. Write "E" at one end of the board.

Lay both "A" pieces on the 2-inch edge 36 inches apart. Place piece "E" on top of both "A" boards. Line the edges of the plywood up with the edges of the 2-by-4s. Use a drill and wood screws to screw through the plywood into the 2-by-4s.

Place piece "C" tight against the plywood and on the inside of piece "A." Drive screws through piece "A" into piece "C." The frame will now have an inverted L shape.

Place piece "D" between both "C" pieces to create a front brace for all "B" pieces.

Cut all "B" pieces at 45 degree angles at both ends.

Use a drill to screw one "B" piece into the bottom of each "A" piece and diagonally into piece "D." Place the other two "B" pieces 10 inches toward the center from each outside "B" piece. Use a drill to drive a screw through the plywood into each "B" piece at the bottom. Attach the "B" pieces to piece "D" by screwing through "B" into "D."
