This comes into play more often for wireless routers, where a user may wish to set up a password for their wireless connection. Using the web-based utility, it is easy to set up and configure every setting for a home router.

      Reset the router to defaults using the small pin hole on the back of the Linksys router.

      Log in to the computer connected to the router.

      Open a web browser. Type "192.168.15.1" into the address bar. Press "Enter."

      Use "admin" for both the user name and password, if prompted. Click "Log In."

      Browse the appropriate tabs in the utility to edit the settings accordingly. Click "Save Changes" when finished. Close the browser once saved.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the "Wireless Security" tab to set a wireless password. Be sure to write the password down, because any devices you may wish to connect to it from that point on will require the code to be entered first.

  • If a setting is set incorrectly and you can no longer access the router's utility, repeat Step 1 to reset the router to its defaults.
