How to Word Business Christmas Cards

Sending a Christmas card can improve business-to-business relationships.

Christmas card writers sometimes use the annual Christmas card to write cheery missives that update recipients on their family's milestones, actions and special events. Writing a business Christmas card requires a very different approach. Businesses generally send Christmas cards to promote business connections and develop their networks in a friendly seasonal atmosphere. Both types of Christmas cards, however, aim at similar objectives--to take advantage of the spirit of the Christmas season to strengthen relationships.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the recipient's name, rather than the business name, in the Christmas card. Address the Christmas card using the recipient's name. A business can strengthen relationships with the recipient by personalizing the Christmas card's salutation.

    • 2

Research the Christmas card recipient's relationship to Christmas. If the recipient actively practices Christianity, consider adding a few words of religious significance to the card. If the recipient does not celebrate Christmas or celebrates Christmas in a secular manner, offer a general "Season's Greetings." If the business staff does not know how the recipient celebrates during the Christmas season, do not include religious wording.

    • 3

Mention the recipient's family in the greeting (e.g., "We wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas season, with much health and happiness").

    • 4

Include a few words about a special or personal connection that the business or its staff has with the recipient. This strengthens the personal nature of the card, letting the recipient know the card was sent, not as a social obligation, but as an extension of good will and friendship.

    • 5

Review briefly the current relationship of the business with the Christmas card's recipient and express in the card the hope of a continued relationship in the new year.

    • 6

End the Christmas card with a comfortable "regards," "sincerely" or "best wishes of the season."

    • 7

Sign the card with all the names of your company's staff who have a relationship with the recipient.
