How to Connect a Fast Ethernet 8 Hub Connection to DSL for an Office
Installing DSL in an office gives you the ability to provide broadband access to every computer in an office. In order to do that, you will need correctly connect the DSL modem to the local area network. One way to do this is to use an 8-port fast Ethernet hub connected to a router and modem to share the Internet connection.

1
Connect a router to the DSL modem. Using an Ethernet cable you will connect one end to the port labeled "Ethernet" on the modem. The port may also be labeled "LAN." The other end of the Ethernet cable will connect to the router in a port labeled "Internet" or "WAN."

2
Configure the router for your Internet connection. You will need to configure the LAN and WAN settings of your router. In many cases the WAN settings are done by setting the router to dynamically obtain IP address information from the Internet provider. However, check with the Internet provider to see if they have static addresses for you to manually enter in the router. Furthermore, you will need to configure the LAN settings. Most local area networks will use the IP range of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.1, and many will set the router to be 192.168.1.1.

Connect the 8-port hub to the router. Using another Ethernet cable connect one end to the port labeled "LAN" on the router, and the other end will go into a port on the hub. In some cases the hub will have a port labeled "Uplink" that is ideally suited for connecting to other network devices.

Connect the computers to the 8-port hub. Again, you will use Ethernet cables. One end of the Ethernet cable will plug into the network interface card of your computer, and the other end of the cable will plug into a free port on the hub.
