How to Connect a DVD Recorder to a Satellite Receiver
DVD recorders are becoming less expensive and easier to use, making them more accessible to people. While many people use DVRs with their satellite TV service to record videos onto a hard drive, you can instead use a DVD recorder that will put videos on the easy-to-transport discs. A DVD recorder will connect to your satellite receiver box just like a VCR, DVR or any other video recording device.
Instructions

1
Check to be certain that the satellite receiver box is connected to your satellite dish antenna. The RG6 coaxial cable running from the dish must connect to the input port on the receiver box.
-
2
Connect the satellite receiver's output to your DVD recorder's input. Depending on the receiver box and DVD recorder, you have multiple cable options; HDMI is the best, followed by RCA component, S-video and RCA composite.

-
3
Attach the DVD recorder's input to your TV set using the same type of cable connection (for picture consistency).
-
4
Turn on and tune the TV set (make sure it and all the other devices are plugged in) to the input channel that works with your cable connection. Turn on the satellite receiver, and make sure its transmission comes through on the TV screen.

Tips & Warnings
Composite cables use the RCA-style plugs with the yellow, red and white cables. Component cables use the red, green and blue video plugs with separate red and white audio plugs. An S-Video cable also requires RCA audio cables with its circular, multi-pin plug. HDMI cables have thin, trapezoid-like connectors.
If the DVD recorder has a tuner (not all of them do), set the tuner to the Line-In channel.
