Drawing animals using numbers can be a great way to get a class excited to learn about numbers. Using numbers as part of an animal's shape can help young students get better at number and shape recognition. For the example in this article you will learn how to make a bumble bee out of some basic numbers. The numbers you will be using are 8, 9, 6, 7, 3 and 1. When placed correctly on the page and turned at different angles, all of these numbers can create the shape of a bumble bee.
Step 1
Draw an 8 with a slight diagonal tilt to the left-hand corner of the page. This will be the head and body of the bee. Add two diagonal 3s for the wings on the right-hand side of the bottom section of the 8.

Step 2
Draw two 7s on top of the head for each antenna. Draw a 6 for the left-hand side eye, and a reverse 6 for the right-hand side eye.
Step 3
Create the legs of the bee with six 1 shapes. These 1s should be upside-down and pointed diagonally toward the corners. Place three of these number 1s on the left-hand side of the bottom circle and another row of three running down the middle.
Step 4
Add the mouth with a sideways 3 just below the eyes. Create the stinger of the bee with a number 9 at the base of the bee.
Step 5
Add triangles along the back and sides of the bee's head and body for the bee's characteristic stripes. Ink the entire drawing. Let the ink dry and erase the pencil lines.
Step 6
Color the picture with markers. Color the body of the bee yellow. Add tan for shadows around the bottom side of the face the back of the body. Color the stripes and stinger black. Color the outline of the wings blue. Add blue around the eyes for irises and black for pupils. Color the antennas black.
Warning
Place a piece of paper under your illustration when you color it so the marker will not bleed through.
