How to Replace a Metal Residential Entry Door

Over time, metal residential entry doors can become damaged or just outdated and replacement is necessary. These doors can be replaced in less than an hour with only a helper and a screwdriver. Replacement doors are widely available at most home improvement centers.

Things You'll Need

• Tape measure
• Screwdriver
• Helper

Instructions

1. Measure the height, width and thickness of the existing door. Measure the distance from the top of the door to the top of each hinge and measure the distance from the top of the door to the center of the door handle hole.

2. Purchase the new door, using the measured dimensions.

3. Remove the door lock from the old door.

4. Unscrew the door hinges from the door and remove the door from the door opening.

5. Screw the hinges to the new door. Have a helper hold the door in place while you screw the hinges on.

6. Install the door lock.
