How to Identify a Honda VTEC thumbnail
Multiple Honda models come with VTEC technology.

Honda has a reputation for building some of the most reliable cars in the world. With the introduction of the VTEC engine, Honda also has the ability to say that they are at the forefront of new car technologies. VTEC stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. This system improves the volumetric efficiency of the engine, allowing Honda to extract more power from smaller-displacement engines. Although there are multiple models of the VTEC engine (DOHC VTEC, SOHC VTEC, and VTEC-E), identifying these cars is very simple. The VTEC emblem is on multiple parts of the car.

Instructions

  1. Finding VTEC Emblems

    • 1

Look at the rear of the car for a VTEC emblem. This will be the most apparent emblem on the car since it will be made of a silver material that shines in the sun. This emblem also protrudes slightly from the car.

    • 2

Look at the doors of the car for a VTEC graphic. These graphics are less apparent than the emblem on the back of the car and are not always there. Still, this is the second best option to find the VTEC sign on the exterior of the car.

    • 3

Open the hood of the car and see if the engine has a large VTEC emblem. This will most likely be the largest and most eye-catching emblem the car has even though you have to open the hood to see it. Also, all the other exterior emblems are either optional or can be removed. The VTEC emblem on the engine is engraved in. This is the surest way to find out if a car is a VTEC model.
