      Verify that your Verizon Wireless plan includes texting. If it doesn't you may not be able to receive messages. Customer service can be reached at 800-922-0204 from 6am to 11pm seven days a week. A Verizon store can also make alterations to your plan (see Resources).

      Give your friends and family your number to text once you have verified that you have a plan that includes text messaging. When someone sends a text message to your number, you should receive it within minutes as long as your phone is in service.

      Visit txt.vzw.com (see References) and log into your account to send a text message from your Verizon number to another phone. You can also check the status of your text and change your messaging preferences.
