How to Record Games on TV

How to Record Games on TV thumbnail
Record your video game content.

When playing a video game you may want to record content from a specific sequence--or perhaps the entire game itself. This is especially helpful when creating a video walk-through of the game for friends or others to follow. Although you cannot directly record the game onto a digital video recorder (DVR), you can run the gaming system through a VCR and record the game onto a VHS tape.

Things You'll Need

  • Video game system
  • 2 sets of RCA audio/video cables

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the RCA audio/video cables into the "Video Out" ports of the video game system. Make sure the same color of the cables (red, white and yellow) watch the connection ports.

    • 2

Connect the opposite end of the cables into the "Video In" ports on your VCR.

    • 3

Attach the second RCA audio/video cables into the "Video Out" ports on the VCR. Plug the free end of the cables into the "Video In" ports on the TV.

    • 4

Power on the video game system, VCR and television. Turn your television to state "3" and start up your game.

    • 5

Insert the VHS tape into the VCR and press "Play" and "Record" at the same time. The VCR will begin to record your video game content while you play.
