Directions to Remove a Tailgate From a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab SLT

The 2007 Dodge Ram Mega Cab SLT is equipped with Dodge's "Easy-Off Tailgate," as is every other 2007 Dodge Ram model. Removing the tailgate is different from other trucks; in many ways it's easier, because removing the tailgate requires no tools.

Instructions

1. Set the parking brake, then move to the truck's rear. Pull the handle to open the tailgate.

2. Release the tailgate cable from the stud. Push the looped end forward, then pull it inward to unhook it from the stud. Repeat the process for the other tailgate cable.

3. Position yourself behind the passenger side of the tailgate. Lift the passenger side straight up from the bottom, until the support rod emerges above the hanger bracket. With the rod free, pull the passenger side of the tailgate rearward carefully. (The tailgate is heavy. You may want to have someone help you.)

4. Push the tailgate to the right to release the driver-side bracket from its mount.

Tips & Warnings

• Be careful when handling the tailgate. It can cause injury if dropped onto your feet or legs.

• Don't store the tailgate in the truck.
