How to Change a Mouse Icon on a Mac

Larger cursors are easier to spot on your display.

When it comes to sorting through the files and folders on your Apple computer, the mouse cursor should be your most trusted ally. Although the default mouse cursor is quite small and can be difficult to spot on larger displays, Apple has included a full suite of universal access tools in every build of OS X that will allow you to change the appearance of your pointy navigator.

Instructions

1. Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen to bring down the Apple menu. From here, select "System Preferences." A new window will appear on your screen.

2. Locate the "Universal Access" button in your System Preferences window. You'll find its circular blue icon under the System category. Click the icon to launch the Universal Access menu.

3. Select "Mouse" on the navigation bar at the top of the Universal Access window. It's the last option on the right.

4. Drag the slider next to "Cursor Slider" from left to right. Your mouse pointer will grow and shrink in real time as you adjust the slider. Find a size that works for you, then close the Universal Access window by clicking the red "X" button in its upper-left corner. Your cursor icon will remember the size you've chosen automatically.

Tips & Warnings

• You can adjust the mouse cursor at any time by opening the Universal Access menu and adjusting the Cursor Size slider. Feel free to experiment with various sizes.
