Determining hourly wages.

Usually if a company does not give an hourly wage to an employee, then the employee is salaried. A person earning a salary earns a specific amount of money over a specified period, no matter how many hours he worked during the period. It is important to calculate hourly wage to see just how much money a person is making over the course of a period.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine your salary. For example, a lawyer makes a salary of $65,000 per year.

    • 2

Determine the average amount of hours worked per year. In the example, if the lawyer averaged 70 hours a week for 50 weeks, he or she worked 3500 hours for the year year, 70 hours a week times 50 weeks.

    • 3

Divide the salary by the average hours worked per week. In the example, $65,000 divided by 3500 hours, equals $18.57 an hour for the lawyer.
