How to Transfer iPod Music to a Mac Library

How to Transfer iPod Music to a Mac Library thumbnail
Transferring music from an iPod to a Mac is not complicated.

An iPod is designed to use the iTunes program on a Mac to sync music to it. Music on an iPod cannot be returned to the iTunes library that is on the Mac's hard drive because the OS X operating system will not allow it. You can transfer music from your iPod back into the iTunes library by using an iPod transfer program, of which there are a number that work on a Mac in a similar fashion to each other. Transferring iPod music to your iTunes library is not illegal to do and will not void the warranty of your iPod or Mac.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plug the iPod connector directly into a built-in USB port on the Mac---using a USB hub could dilute the signal and cause a disk error to occur.

  • Some iPod transfer programs will not be able to transfer copy protected music from the iPod.
