How Can I Make Ringtones Out of a Music CD? thumbnail
Extract music from a CD for your phone's ring tone.

Having signature ring tones adds a personal touch and individual style to your cell phone. Although you can purchase and download ring tones, many cell phones allow you to set your own ring tones from audio clips in your personal collection. For cell phones of this nature, you only need to extract the desired audio from your music CD and transfer it onto your cell phone. Perform the extraction using Windows Media Player or iTunes to get started.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Import, or rip, the song you want to make into a ring tone onto your personal computer. Insert the audio CD into your computer's CD writer drive and open either Windows Media Player or iTunes if neither loads automatically. Highlight the song from which you want to make a ring tone in either program. Select the "Rip" or "Import CD" option in Windows Media Player or iTunes, respectively.

Connect the cell phone to your computer using the USB adapter. Insert one end of the USB adapter into the cell phone. Insert the USB end of the adapter into an available USB port on the computer. Wait for your file manager to register the cell phone as connected hardware and display its device icon.

    • 3

Send the song to your cell phone. Drag and drop the ring tone song from its file folder onto the cell phone's device icon in your file manager. You may alternatively open the cell phone's file folder window and drag and drop the ring tone there. Drag and drop the music file into your cell phone's "My Ringtones" folder, if applicable.

    • 4

Go to the "Ringers" menu in your cell phone. Highlight and select the song you transferred onto the cell phone from the file browser menu. The song will play from the beginning as a ring tone until either you or voice mail picks up.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may also send a song from the computer to your cell phone by email or a Bluetooth connection if your device allows.
