How to Make Spider Decorations for a Spider-Man Birthday Party

How to Make Spider Decorations for a Spider-Man Birthday Partythumbnail
To compliment a Spider-Man party, hang some paper spiders and webs.

Making spider decorations for a birthday party is not difficult. This decoration, a spider on a web, requires only a handful of materials and three tools: scissors, glue and tape. With the exception of drying time, the project won't take longer than 30 minutes to assemble. Preschool kids will enjoy helping. Before shopping for your supplies, decide if you want to use basic black for your spiders and webs, or if you would prefer blue and red to compliment Spider-Man's colors.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Paper plates
    • White yarn
    • Black tissue paper
    • Construction paper
    • Black, silver or brown pipe cleaners
    • Craft eyes
    • Glue
    • Scissors
    • Tape
    1. Web

      • 1

Glue black tissue paper onto a paper plate. Let dry.

      • 2

Cut four to six "v" shapes around the sides of the dried paper plate.

      • 3

Cut a 36-inch piece of white yarn.

      • 4

Tape one end of the yarn onto the back of the paper plate, then weave the rest of the yarn around the plate from "v" notch to "v" notch, to create a web look. Tape the yarn to the back of the plate. If there is yarn hanging after the weave, cut it off.

      Spider

      • 1

Cut a circle, smaller than the paper plate, out of a piece of black construction paper.

      • 2

Bend the ends of four pipe cleaners and tape them to the back of the circle.

      • 3

Glue two large or eight small eyes on the front of your spider.

      • 4

Tape the spider to the web and hang the decoration.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Trace around cups to make the circles for your spiders. If you trace around different cups, you'll have different sized spiders. Since Spider-Man is your theme, you could make the webs blue and red with a black spider, or paste a blue and red spider onto a black web. To change colors, just change the colors of your supplies. Also, try hanging the spiders with yarn from the walls and ceilings, separate from the web. To hide the tape on the pipe cleaners, glue a second circle over the spider's back. If you need an activity for the kids to do at the party, have them make the spiders and hang them afterward. To have materials ready, pre-cut all the circles. These spiders also make great Halloween decorations.

    • If younger kids are helping with the project, be sure they are supervised. When necessary, have an adult do the cutting.
