How to Measure the Diameter of Trailer Rims for Hubcap Sizing

Trailer rims may be smaller than car rims, but they can be measured the same way

To find the proper size hubcap for your trailer rims, you must measure the diameter of the wheel. Hubcaps are essentially plastic covers that fit over a steel rim and are much more aesthetically pleasing. The diameter of trailer rims can be measured in the same fashion that you would measure car, truck, ATV, or motorcycle rims. It doesn't matter if you measure the diameter of the rim on or off the trailer.

Things You'll Need

• Measuring tape
• Pen
• Paper

Instructions

1. Place one end of the measuring tape at the top of a bead seat. A bead seat is a metal ridge that runs the circumference of the rim and help creates a good seal on the tire.

2. Extend the measuring tape to the opposite end of the wheel. Measure the distance between the two bead seats.

3. Write down the measurement and measure one more time to ensure accuracy. Also, when you buy hubcaps, it is important to know the number of lug nuts that your trailer has. Write this number down as well.
