How to Wrap Knife Handles With 550 Cord
Wrapping a knife with 550 cord provides a secure grip on the handle, while also providing you with some backup line if you need it. Paracord or parachute cord, also known as 550 cord , is made from seven nylon strands braided together and held in a nylon sheath. The nickname "550 cord" comes from the required test strength of the line-the minimum breaking strength of type II paracord is 550 pounds. You can wrap knife handles with 550 cord a variety of ways.
Instructions

1
Seal the end of the 550 cord by passing the flame of a small lighter along the cut fibers until they blacken.
-
2
Pull one end of the 550 cord through one of the hardware mounting holes at either the top or bottom of the knife handle. Lay 2 inches of the cord flat along the handle.
-
-
3
Wrap the 500 cord around the handle, beginning at the point where the 2 inches of cord are flat along the handle. Pull very tightly as you wrap, and do not allow the cord to twist.
-
4
Wrap up the handle as tight as possible. Be sure to wrap in one direction until you have covered the entire handle.
-
5
Feed the end of the 550 cord through the second hole. When you have wrapped the cord the length of the handle and reach the second hole carefully feed your cord through it.
-
6
Feed the remaining tail of the cord that has been fed through the second hole underneath the main handle wrap. Loosen the wrap slightly if required to fit the cord underneath the wrap.
-
7
Seal the cut end of the cord using the lighter, and then pull the wrap tight over the tail.
