How to Decorate Outdoor Christmas Urns

Any outdoor urn can be decorated for Christmas.

Outdoor urns typically hold plants and greenery. During the Christmas holiday season, they can also be decorated and displayed with Christmas or winter-friendly themes. Using simple decoration methods can make your outdoor urns look spectacular during the holidays.

Things You'll Need

• 5- to 8-inch wide ribbon
• Plastic Christmas balls
• Small Christmas sign
• Spruce branches (real or fake)
• Small, artificial tree
• Newspaper
• Strand of battery-operated Christmas lights
• Moss
• Scissors
• Fake apples
• Tall, clear vase (plastic is best)
• Pillar candle
• Fake cranberries
• Battery-operated tea light

Instructions

Filled Urn

1. Cut a length of ribbon long enough to go around the urn three times. Wrap the ribbon around the urn two times, starting from the middle so that two ends are left. Use the ends of the ribbon to tie a large bow.

2. Fill the urn with plastic tree balls of different colors. Choose colors that coordinate with the color of your ribbon. Feel free to think outside of traditional Christmas colors. Blues, light greens, cranberry and even pinks can add a festive look without looking old-fashioned.

3. Take a strand of battery-operated Christmas lights and weave them around the balls inside the urn. This will add reflection to the balls, making them even prettier. The lights will also show up better at night.

Mini Christmas Tree

1. Place a small, artificial tree inside the urn. Do not place the tree on the stand, but stick it directly inside the urn.

2. Stabilize the urn with newspaper or other paper to keep the tree from falling over.

3. Decorate the tree as you would an indoor tree. Hang lights from the branches, and add other decorations if you want. Make sure to use plastic decorations in case the ornaments fall off the tree.

4. Place moss around the base of the tree to hide the newspaper.

Apple Candle

1. Fill the urn with newspaper until it is almost full. Spread spruce branches around the edges of the urn, leaving a small hole in the center of the urn.

2. Place a tall candle inside the urn. Pour the berries over the candle to stabilize it, add weight and make the candle stand out more.

3. Nestle the vase inside the hole that you left in the urn. Make sure it is completely stable.

4. Add apples around the base of the vase, right on top of the spruce branches. You can light the candle if you wish, or leave it unlit all year. You can also place a battery-operated light inside the vase to add a less-dangerous glow.
