How to Wear a Smock
Traditionally, you would use a smock to cover your clothes to protect them from getting dirty while cooking, doing art projects or working in the garden. However, it's recently become fashionable to wear a dress or shirt that is modeled after the more functional smock. Smocks are typically shapeless, so you need to wear it carefully to avoid looking much bigger than you are.

1
Wear a shirt underneath the smock. Many smocks are sleeveless and will look better if you wear a shirt underneath. You can wear a short-sleeved shirt in the summer and a long-sleeved shirt in the winter. Choose a solid-color shirt in a color that complements your smock.

2
Fit the smock to your body. If you want to avoid looking pregnant or simply bigger than you are, you need to give the smock some shape. Some smocks feature ties in the back that you can adjust to your size. You don't want the smock to be skin-tight, but it should still show off your curves. Alternatively, you can wrap a belt around the smock to define your waist.

3
Pair your smock with tights, pants or leggings. If you're wearing a short smock, you should pair it with jeans or other pants. If the smock is longer, you can wear tights or leggings.

Choose a flattering print. A busy pattern can make you look much larger than you are. Stick with simple patterns or solid colors to look your best.

Tips & Warnings
Smocks don't come in the wide range of sizes that other dresses and shirts do. If in doubt, choose the bigger size. A smock dress is supposed to look large, so a bigger smock will look better than a tight one.
