How to Delete AIM History

Deleting your AIM history helps to keep your conversations private.

Every time you send or receive an instant message on AOL Instant Messenger, your computer may be keeping a log of the entire conversation. If you share your computer or worry about the privacy of your data, you should disable logging and delete your AIM history. The AIM software application allows you to access these settings and swiftly delete your tracks on command from its settings menu.

Things You'll Need

• AOL Instant Messenger
• Windows computer

Instructions

1. Open the AIM application from the Start -> Programs menu.

2. Sign into the AIM service by entering your username and password.

3. Click "Edit" to open the edit menu. Select the "Settings" option.

4. Open the "IM Logging" tab by clicking it.

5. Click the "Delete log files..." button to completely erase your AIM chat history.

Tips & Warnings

• If you wish to prevent further logging, remove the check mark from the "Log IMs" and "Log Chats" boxes.
