How to Make it So People Can Donate to a Website

If you have a website that you want to use to raise donations for a cause, you can set up online donations. As of April 2010, PayPal is the only payment processor that allows anyone to accept donations on their website, using a PayPal account. Donators are not required to have a PayPal account to make donations, just a credit card or checking account. Website donations then go directly to the PayPal account you use for the website.

Instructions

    • 1

Open an account with PayPal if you do not have one. You must create a business or premier account to accept donations. If you have a personal account, you can upgrade to one of these account types.

    • 2

Create a “donate” button from the “Merchant Services” tab once you are logged into your PayPal account.

    • 3

Place the HTML code for the donate button on your website where you want the button to appear if you are familiar with web design and HTML coding. If you are not, have your website designer place the code into your website. Once the code has been placed on your site, people will be able to donate via the PayPal.
