How to Troubleshoot Streaking on a Copier

Copy machines are a modern technology that most offices could not dream of functioning without. Copy machines provide a quick way to distribute multiple copies of a single document with ease. If copies have begun to come out of your copy machine with streaks running down the paper, there are several common problems that may be causing the issue.

Things You'll Need

• Microfiber cloth
• Glass cleaner
• User manual

Instructions

1. Clean the glass on the surface of the copier face using a microfiber cloth and glass cleaner. Also clean the glass on the scanner bar on feed through copy machines.

2. Clean the transfer wire inside the copy machine. Check the user manual for specific instructions on how to clean the transfer wire, as the process differs from one machine to the next.

3. Remover toner cartridges and verify that the protective plastic strip held on by colorful plastic tabs has been removed.

4. Locate the fusing assembly within the copy machine and inspect it for cleanliness and damage.

Tips & Warnings

• Replacing the cleaning wand that sits above the fusing assembly each time toner is replaced will prevent the buildup of dust that may cause streaking and damage to the fusing assembly over time.
