How to Get the Shortest Driving Directions

Getting driving directions that are the shortest distance is a simple process.

Navigation has become much easier over the last two decades with the rise of the Internet and the evolution of portable GPS systems. Whereas maps used to be the primary tool for figuring out the easiest route between two places, now a computer can do the work for you.

Things You'll Need

• Computer with Internet access
• GPS system

Instructions

Internet

1. Go to a mapping website such as Mapquest.com or Rand McNally.com.

2. Enter the addresses of your starting point and your destination. If you don't have specific addresses, you can use intersections or nearby landmarks.

3. Click on the option "Shortest Distance" and then select "Get Directions."

4. Write down the directions or print them out.

GPS

1. Turn on your GPS system.

2. Change your route preference to "Shortest Distance" in accordance with your GPS instructions. It should be listed in your "Options" menu under "Navigation."

3. Enter your destination under "Address" and click "OK."

4. Follow the directions provided by the GPS.
