How to Change the Homepage in Internet Explorer's Registry thumbnail
A home page is the default content when IE opens.

A home page provides users with a default content each time a new tab or window is opened in Internet Explorer (IE). A home page can be a search engine, personal website or even an internal business web page. The Windows registry contains all the saved settings for a personal computer, including the home page for Internet Explorer. Changing the right value in the registry sets the home page for any Internet Explorer session on the machine.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button. Select "Run" from the menu options. This displays a text box for commands. Enter "regedit" and press "OK" to open the Windows registry editor.

    • 2

Navigate to the Windows registry directory labeled "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main."

    • 3

Right-click the registry key labeled "Start Page." Select "Modify" from the menu items. This opens a dialog box.

    • 4

Enter the home page you want to use for Internet Explorer. Press the "OK" button to save your settings. Reboot the machine. Registry settings do not take effect until the Windows machine is rebooted. The next time you use Internet Explorer, the new home page is opened as the default.
