How to Dress Up a Jean Skirt

Classic and reliable, denim serves as a staple in every woman's wardrobe. However, traditional jean skirts can be a bit drab. To keep a jean skirt up-to-date with the latest styles, you need to give it some "glam." With a few basic sewing or crafting supplies, you can embellish your jean skirt and bring it back to fashionable life.

Instructions

1. Add a border to the bottom of the jean skirt. Sew or glue on a border made from lace or another bordering piece such as a fringe. You can also trim around the pockets or elsewhere on the jean skirt in the same manner.

2. Make your jean skirt ratty. Use a section of sandpaper and roughly rub it on the skirt in patches. Worn-out jeans have a playful, cool appeal and have been in fashion since the 1980s.

3. Create a patchwork masterpiece. Add style to your jean skirt by patching any natural or purposefully made holes with patches. Use colorful and patterned patches with zigzagged stitches of embroidery thread to dress up a jean skirt and create a one-of-a-kind article.

4. Glue on rhinestones and sequins to dress up your jean skirt and make it flashy. Use fabric glue and create patterns and designs with the rhinestones and sequins or just place a line of them along seams to create a sassy trim piece.
